The calculation changes when the drive belt, speed controller or drive motor fails. Those parts are expensive, and the work is complex enough that the total can approach the cost of a new machine.
We won’t talk you into a drive motor replacement on a machine where a new one makes more sense. We’ll give you both numbers — the repair and the replacement — and let you decide. If you do go new, installation is usually straightforward, though older laundries with double taps need a minor plumbing change.

The five-minute check before you call
Most Bosch front loaders have a small drain pump filter behind a flap at the bottom front. Coins, hair clips and lint collect there and stop the machine draining or spinning. Put a towel down, drain the water out first, then unscrew the filter, clear it and screw it back in firmly. A loose filter cap is a common cause of leaks.

Why won’t my Bosch washing machine spin?
Often it’s the load, not the machine. A single heavy item like a bath mat can’t be balanced, so the machine won’t spin it — add a couple of towels and try again. If water is still in the drum, it can’t spin until it drains. If it drains but still won’t spin, the drive belt, motor or speed controller is the likely cause.
Why is my Bosch washing machine not draining?
Usually something is blocking the way out. Coins, hair clips and lint collect in the drain pump filter, and the outlet hose can kink behind the machine. Check both first. If the filter is clear and the hose is straight, the drain pump itself may have failed — and that’s a repair worth doing.
Is it worth repairing a Bosch washing machine?

Why is my Bosch washing machine leaking from the bottom?
Start with the drain pump filter cap at the bottom front — if it wasn’t screwed back tightly after cleaning, it will leak. Then check the inlet hose and the tap connector behind the machine. If water is coming from around the door, the door seal is likely worn or torn, which is a straightforward repair.
Why won’t my Bosch washing machine start?
Check that the door is pushed shut until it clicks, the tap is on, and child lock isn’t set. If the display lights up but nothing happens, the door lock may not be engaging — the machine won’t start a cycle until it does. If there’s no power at all with the plug switched on, the fault is electrical and needs a technician.
Why is fabric softener left in the drawer?
A softener compartment that won’t empty is usually blocked. Softener is thick, and it builds up around the small siphon cap in the drawer until water can’t carry it through. Pull the drawer out, take the cap off and rinse both in warm water. If the whole drawer fills with water, the water inlet may be blocked too.
What does E18 mean on a Bosch washing machine?
E18 means the machine couldn’t pump its water out in the time it expected. The usual causes are a blocked drain pump filter, a kinked or blocked outlet hose, or a blocked waste pipe. Clear the filter and check the hose first. If E18 comes back after that, the drain pump may need replacing.
